Configuration

The Bluestar is a "weekender" non-pop-top, similar to later Carat vans.

California rust-free, straight, well maintained and upgraded.

 

We have owned this van for 4 years, putting fewer than 13,000 miles on it camping and going to music festivals, along with hauling furniture and music equipment around our town. 

 

 The paint is original and the fiberglass cladding shows fading but with a wax she's beautiful. There are a few dings and the nose has a few rock chips; she's seen some adventures. 

 

The interior shows some wear but it's intact and comfortable; no fabric tears or stains. 

 

All mechanical work the last four years has been done by a Vanagon specialist in Chico, CA and by the owner informed by the collective wisdom of the Vanagon mailing list, TheSamba, VanCafe, and GoWesty.

Mileage: 127,000.

Transaxle: Manual 4-speed

Engine: 2.1L 105HP wasserboxer. No leaks! Runs strong. Good oil pressure. 

Emissions: Passed CA smog with flying colors.

Maintenance:

  • Top-end rebuilt at @115K, including new rear/front heater core, radiator, water pump.

  • Tires: Hankook RA-08 @115K

  • Fuel Tank resealed / crossover fitting upgrade @120K

  • Fuel Lines Replaced @126K

  • Oil changed @ 3K or 6mo intervals, Castrol 20W50

  • Other work in the last 12K miles: power steering lines & rack, coolant pipe junctions, brake slave cylinder, coolant pressure tank & cap. Ask for receipts.

Owner Upgrades:

  • Dash-mount oil pressure gauge

  • Headlight Relay kit

  • Kenwood CD Player stereo

  • Upgraded Blaupunkt bass reflex speaker

  • Alpine Front speakers

  • Pioneer amp / subwoofer (negotiable)

Idiosyncracies:

  • The A/C isn't charged, refrigerant leaks.

  • The shocks need to be replaced.

  • The cruise control doesn't work.

  • The power mirrors don't work.

  • The rear wiper sprayer doesn't work.

  • Flux capacitor can only send you back to 1989.
